Healthy Eating Plans
Many healthy eating plans are based on the concept that certain nutrient dense food groups should be consumed in greater quantities while limiting calorically dense food selections.
Because different people have different nutritional needs – based on their sex, age, height, weight and average level of physical activity – most plans offer tools to calculate your own daily caloric needs and how many servings of each type of food you should be eating. These plans also will tell you if you need to increase your level of physical activity. Based on this information, you can create an individualized eating plan that will help you get the nutrition you need and maintain a healthy weight.
The guidelines discussed below provide information on a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Before following any of these recommendations, talk to your doctor to determine what is best for you.
